Comme j'ai dit, dans chaque maison, il y a quelque chose à voir. Ici c'était des jouets d'époque.

As I said, in each house or chalet, there's something to see or do. In this case it was toys and games.

Ici, le chalet qu'ils avaient reconstruit appartenait à un sculpteur, ils avaient remis son atelier exactement comme c'était avant, mais à côté il y avait un sculpteur 'en vrai'.

This chalet had belonged to a sculptor, and his workshop was faithfully restored. But in the next room there was a real live sculptor.

Ici un très vieux monsieur fait des paniers de roseau. A l'époque, même avec un âge avancé et les mains tremblotantes, on pouvait encore se rendre utile.

A very old man making baskets. In those days, even if you were old an trembly, you could still be 'useful' to society. Better than stacking shelves at Asda (always shocks me when I see old people working in the UK).

Un salon de coiffure aussi repris tel-quel. J'y ai appris que c'est Gillette qui a tué les salons de coiffure: avant les hommes devaient s'y rendre pour se faire raser (d'ailleurs pour éviter les infections chacun avait son propre rasoir - dans un tiroir chez le coiffeur!).

An old barber's shop: I learnt that it was Gillette that killed off barbers. Previously men had to go to the barber to get shaved. And to avoid infection, they each had their own razor: in the shop there was a big chest of little numbered drawers where each one was kept.
