Cousines

On n'a passé qu'un petit bout de soirée ensemble, mais Kalia et sa cousine Letizia se sont éclatées (pour vrai dire, le père de Letizia nous a aussi fait tellement rire qu'on en avait mal aux cotes!)

We only had a short evening together, but Kalia and her cousin Letizia had a whale of a time together (to be honest, Letizia's father also had us laughing so hard that it hurt!).

Dans le désordre, mais voilà une autre cousine - Rosaria, qui a passé quelques jours chez nous en Suisse.

Chronologically misplaced, but here's a photo with another cousin - Rosaria, who stayed with us for a few days (at home in Swissland).

En vacances, on peut s'amuser à coiffer son Daddy...

et on fait les statues de princesse.

Seaside ... Plage

Les vacances où on visite la famille ne sont jamais que des vacances partielles, mais on a réussi à faire deux tours en famille à la plage. La première était à Torre Mileto. Assez crade, et il ne faisait pas spécialement beau, mais les filles se sont amusées à dessiner dans le sable et faire des constructions avec les bouts de bois.

Holidays where you visit family are only partly holidays, but we did do two solo trips to the seaside. The first beach at Torre Mileto was pretty grungy, and the weather wasn't very hot, but the girls got well in to drawing on the beach and building things out of the flotsam. And we had a picnic there (always a highlight).

Des panoramas et plages largement plus belles sur la côte du Gargano, en route pour Vieste, où nous avons passé un bon moment sur une énorme plage, presque pour nous tout seul. Il a fait bien plus beau, mais on ne s'est pas aventuré dans l'eau. Les filles se sont occupés avec le sable, et ont fait un promenade sur la plage avec Mamma.

Rather more picturesque and touristy beaches are to be found around the coast of Gargano, this shot was taken on the way to Vieste, where we had a mile-long beach pretty much to ourselves, it was warmer, cleaner, and more beautiful, though we didn't venture into the water. The girls just played in the sand, and went for a beach walk with Mamma.

Car ... Voiture

Sur place (en Italie), en sortant en marche arrière de la cimetière, j'ai un petit peu cogné dans un lampadaire. C'était l'occasion de visiter une casse avec mon beau-frère, d'où on est sorti avec un haillon arrière plus vitre pour 150 euros, qu'un copain carrosier a monté pour rien!

Reversing out of the cemetry in Apricena, I hit a lamppost, and made a big dent in the back of the car. I asked my brother-in-law if there wasn't a place for picking up second hand parts, and he took me to a yard where I came away with the compete back door, including the glass, for 150 euros, which a friend then fitted for free!

Un soir qu'on traîné trop longtemps dehors, j'ai installé les enfants dans le coffre pour qu'ils n'aient pas trop froid.

Quand j'ai voulu donné mon pull à Rebecca, elle a dit "mais tu n'auras pas froid?". J'étais bouche-bée qu'un enfant de 4 ans et demi puisse avoir un tel réflexe: il y a bien des adultes qui ne l'ont pas!

One evening when we stayed out a bit late, and had forgotten the girl's coats, I stuck them in the boot to keep warm while the grown-ups were nattering.

When I offered my jumper to Rebecca, she said "but won't you be cold?". I'm completely gob-smacked that a four-year-old could react like that. There's lots of adults who never get that far..

Puglia

Voilà la vue de notre appartement de vacances à Poggio Imperiale. Notez les maisons avec les panneaux solaires. Il y a aussi beaucoup d'éoliennes dans la région.

View from our holiday flat in Poggio Imperiale - note quite a few houses with solar panels. I think they must be subsidised there, because it is a very poor part of the country. Lots of windmills as well (not shown).

Une vue de San Nicandro Garganico depuis le balcon du beau-frère. Les maisons là-bas ont souvent l'air de ne pas être terminées à l'extérieur, mais à l'intérieur c'est tout aménagé comme des maisons de poupées!

This is the view from brother-in-law's flat in San Nicandro Garganico. Note the very 'unfinished' look of quite a lot of the houses. They typically have very run-down outsides, and spotless, impeccable, almost museum-like interiors.

Cousins

 

On a fait un grand boucle en Italie - 2900km. On a profité pour voir presque toute la famille!

Ici, les seuls cousins (il y a beaucoup plus de cousines) de Kalia et Rebecca du côté italien. (Le grand cousin a un fils qui a un an de moins que Rebecca).

Last week we went on a mega-tour of Italy, 1800 miles and visited nearly all of the family there.

Kalia and Rebecca's only male cousins on the Italian side - the elder of the two has a son who is a year younger than Rebecca !

Alimentarium

   

Deux choses qui m'énervent de l'Alimentarium:
Pas la fourchette, j'aime assez bien encore la fourchette (en tout cas plus que Pinnochio!). Mais zoomez un coup sur le plaque pour voir où ils ont mis Evian et Genève.... gngng ça m'énerve!

L'autre truc c'est la façon dont ils ont fait prolonger le 'parvis' de l'Alimentarium jusqu'au bord du lac. Pour moi c'est un symbole de l'emprise de Nestlé sur la ville de Vevey...
