Car ... Auto

This post was going to be called Car love (with reference to the previous posts Car Hate 1, 2 and 3).
But Sunday morning, the clutch started sticking.
Taking it to the garage on Friday, where I will know for sure what it's all about.

Ho hum, we've had 18 months trouble-free driving and just one service in that time, and we've already passed below the 0.74 francs per km (which is some kind of average published by the swiss equivalent of the AA/RAC)

Shouldn't complain about that, I guess.

Looking up clutches on the internet, I learnt that with a diesel, you shouldn't use the accelerator at all when pulling away in first gear. Just let the engine idle do it, and only accelerate once you've let go of the clutch. I couldn't believe it would work, but it does. Wish I'd know sooner (though not sure that it's that which makes the difference).

I also wonder about the wonderfullness of engine braking. Given the relative costs of replacing brake pads and clutches, maybe I should just use the brakes to slow down!
