L'espace d'un week-end nous avons eu la visite d'un couple d'amis de Suisse. Les filles se sont empressés pour les aider à décharger la voiture.

Some friends popped down for the weekend to stay with us. The girls proudly helped them with them with their bags and gave them a guided tour.

Pour l'occasion, nous avons décidé d'aller au restau à Aigues-Mortes. Tout le monde s'est fait beau/belle.

We decided to take them out to a restaurant in Aigues-Mortes. Everyone got dressed up.

Déjà prêt, on s'occupe en attendant les retardataires.

Here are the first ones who are ready occupied themselves whilst waiting for the others.

Nous avons mangé sur "Le Bateau Ivre", c'était beaucoup plus classe à l'intérieur que ça n'en avait l'air de l'extérieur.

We ate on a boat! Le Bateau Ivre. Much snazzier on the inside than it appeared on the outside.

Première fois dans un 'vrai' restaurant (sans frites) pour nos filles.

It was the first time in a 'real' restaurant (i.e., no chips, nuggets or pizza) for the girls.

Y'en a qui sont photogéniques...

Comme à chaque fois quand il y a du poisson sur le menu, je me dis "allons, cette fois-ci c'est certainement délicieux", et puis après coup, "pourquoi j'ai pas pris le steak?"... (Bon, l'espadon n'était pas franchement mauvais, m'enfin).

Every time I have a menu with fish on I think "go on, this time it's probably delicious", only to end up eyeing the neighbours steak enviously. (I guess the sword-fish wasn't that bad).

Un soir, Kalia a découvert un hérisson. D'après un ami, il devait avoir mangé du mort-au-rat. En tout cas il ne fuyait pas, et le lendemain matin je l'ai vu qu'il avait réussi à arriver jusqu'à la route pour se faire ensuite écrabouillé...

Kalia a voulu savoir si les animaux vont aux ciel. Vos réponses sur une carte postale!

Funnily enough, one evening, Kalia discovered a hedgehog in the garden. According to a friend it had probably eaten rodent-poison. In any case, it wasn't feeling well enough to run away from us. And the next morning I saw it had got as far as the road where it had been duly splatted.

Kalia wanted to know if animals go to heaven. Send your answers on a postcard...

Regardez bien, c'est la grenouille, qu'on n'a jamais réussi à voir en entier.

Look closely and you might be able to spot the frog. Never did manage to catch a glimpse of all of it - it always saw us before we saw it.

Il y avait plein de lézards dehors, mais ici c'est un lézard d'intérieur qui ressemble presque plus à un gecko - grimpe sur les murs et au plafond.

There were plenty of lizards outside, but this one was an 'indoor' lizard - with feet that looked a bit like a gecko. Walked up the wall and across the ceiling!

A day in the life ... Un jour de vacances

Kalia s'est lancé dans un merveilleux mosaique en carton. Il lui a fallu un bon moment mais elle avait de quoi être fière du résultat.

Kalia starting a cardboard mosaic. It ended up taking her quite a long time (she finished it back home), but she was very proud of the result, and rightly so.

 

Après quelques jours, Rebecca a osé nager dans la piscine. En fait, à force d'attendre que je sois disponible pour la tenir, elle s'est lancée toute seule.

It took a few days, but Rebecca ended up swimming on her own two feet (so to speak). (In fact, she got fed up waiting for me to help and just launched herself off on her own with her armbands).

Cet endroit est tellement merveilleux, là aussi, j'aimerais en ouvrir un en Suisse!

Such a great place. It would be so cool to open something like this in Switzerland, but given the unpredictable weather, and smaller population, not sure it would fly.

Magicland

Vous aurez peut-être remarqué qu'on n'a pas été très innovateur cette année.

As you may have worked out by now, we weren't incredibly innovative with this year's holidays.

Ce bonhomme a beaucoup fait rire Rebecca en faisant semblant qu'elle lui 'cassait la main' à chaque passage.

The guy operating the rides was really fun with the kids. As the go round they did high-fives, and he kept pretending that Rebecca was too strong and hurting his hand.

Malgré le fait qu'elle l'avait attendu depuis plusieurs heures, quand le clown s'est approché d'elle, Kalia était beaucoup moins rassurée.

Despite being fascinated by the clown, and waiting hours for him to turn up, when it came to her turn, Kalia just wasn't so sure...

 

Ce n'est que quand sa soeur a osé, et en est sortie indemne, qu'elle s'est lancé.

J'aimerais tellement faire un truc comme ceci en Suisse, mais je crains que la météo ferait que la partie extérieur ne serait pas super rentable...

In fact, it was only when her sister had been hugged and emerged unscathed that she timidly decided to give it a go.

I'd love to set up a place like this in Switzerland but fear the weather wouldn't be good enough for the outdoor bit to pay off.
