BBC Micro - errata

Correction from an authority on the matter: I mixed my memories the other day, the drive to London was to buy an Atari ST, several years later. Here is a picture of the BBC micro in 1983, so yes, that does make me old!

The second Christmas Carols service at St John's went well - it was a 'real' Christmas service this time, as it was snowing like crazy outside!

The two Anglican churches are very very different (more about that later).

Here's the list of carols - the ones in bold were choir only. Didn't find any decent links for the ones that have no link. The ones with asterisks are the ones that give me goose bumps!

Having said that...

More optimism from the (reportedly europhile) BBC:
Here is the simple equation which makes it quite hard to be optimistic about what lies ahead for the eurozone: the stability of the eurozone probably requires Germany to underwrite more-or-less all eurozone sovereign debts, to end the contagion from weak sovereigns to weak banks; but that won't happen unless and until there is an all-powerful finance minister (in effect) for the whole of the eurozone, to reassure Germany and the German people they wouldn't be throwing good money after bad.
Or to put it another way, unless a country like France is prepared to make a much greater sacrifice (for the good of the currency union) of its own government's budget-making powers than it currently seems prepared to do, it is quite hard to paint a rosy picture for the eurozone.

Kitchen ... Cuisine

More kitchen fun. I read somewhere on the internet that a 'quick' way to de-shell hazelnuts is to stick them in a bag and whop them with a hammer. Somewhat dubious but I thought the girls would have fun trying.

Conclusion: lots of hazelnut mash, bits all over the floor (because the bag kept opening), and tired arms after a short time. I tried myself but it's not easy to accurately dose the whop-strength. Looks like I've got a couple of long evenings with a nut-cracker in store. (I collected 5kg of nuts this autumn...).

We then proceeded to make some Christmas biscuits (very seasonal activity here in Swissland, I don't know if there's a UK equivalent, though I gather that in the states they make 'candy houses', or something like that).

Photos of that another time. Here's Kalia doing the washing-up.

After at least three years of talking about going, two weeks ago we finally got our act together and Charles took me to the Creux du Van. It was a grey day - down below. But up above it was pure blue skies and sun. Usually at this time of year there would be snow, but as it didn't rain at all for the whole month of november, there wasn't any.

It's amazing to be above the sea of cloud.

Here's what it looks like.

On this photo, the little 'island' in the centre is the Mont Pelerin, which 'towers' over where we live, but here is almost submerged by the cloud.

And here's what it looked like beneath the sea of clouds.
