Outing ... Sortie

Heureusement qu'après les vacances, il y a encore le beau temps (et on habite un lieu de rêve).

A presque 5 ans et demi, Rebecca s'est convaincu d'essayer de faire du balançoire toute seule. Depuis elle ne s'arrête plus!

Fortunately, even when the holidays are finished, the lovely weather continues (and we do live in a rather stunning place).

At nearly five and a half, and with me refusing to push anymore, Rebecca made a concerted effort to swing on her own. And since then she hasn't stopped.

Avec Kalia on est allé 4 fois en France dans la même journée.

Kalia and I went to France 4 times in one day.

En fait, on est allé en France 4 fois dans les même 5 minutes ! On a fait un tour en bateau, et on est descendu à St Gingolph, un village 'siamois' qui est à cheval sur la frontière. On s'est amusé à passer le pont d'un côté à l'autre.

In fact, we went to France 4 times in 5 minutes! We did a boat trip and got off at St Gingolph, which is a village which straddles the border between Switzerland and France. We had a bit of fun walking back and forth across the bridge.

 

Il n'y a pas grand chose à faire sur le bateau, mais c'est tout l'attrait. Se prélasser et admirer le beau paysage.

There's not much to do on the boat, but that's part of the attraction. Just chill out, and admire the view.

Sommières

On a découvert la ville médièvale de Sommières, qui a un marché de rue le samedi matin et mercredi soir. On y a vu une petite fille qui mendiait :)

We visited the medieval town of Sommières, which has a sprawling market on the pedestrian streets. And street urchins begging for a living...

On a pu utiliser les parapluies (que j'avais pris pour la Bretagne), puisqu'il pleuvait. On a profité de visiter un restaurant et manger une bonne pizza.

It was raining (for the first time) for the first part of our visit, good job we still had the umbrellas in the car (which I bought for the Brittany part of the trip). We stopped in a nice little restaurant for a pizza.

Work ... Travail

Si avec l'école à la maison on a l'avantage de pouvoir partir en vacances quand on veut - on a aussi la possibilité de faire un petit peu de travail, même pendant les vacances !

The cool thing about homeschool is being able to go on holiday when you want. The 'downside' (from the girls' point of view) is that the work follows you on holiday!

Les filles se sont essayés à lacer les chaussures.

The girls learnt to tie shoelaces.

Kalia a travaillé sur son journal (vous reconnaîtrez peut-être les photos?)

Kalia caught up with her diary (you can see from the photos how far behind she was).

 

Et puis on a aussi le temps pour jouer, jouer, jouer (pas de télé en vacances...)

And there was also time for playing, of course. Lots of playing (no telly on holiday).

Nature watch ... La nature

Thomas aime bien collectioner les mues de cigales (je ne savais même pas que ça muait (?) ces bestioles).

Thomas was well into collecting cicada shells (I didn't even know those things moulted - if that's what they do, but apparently it's something like that).

Rebecca a ramassé une fleur avec un papillon dessus. Il est encore resté un bon moment, même pendant qu'elle marchait.

Rebecca picked a flower with a butterfly on, and it stayed on for a good moment.

Une libellule s'est égaré dans notre cuisine.

A dragonfly found its way into the kitchen.

 

Bizarrement, après avoir chercher pendant longtemps les autres années, cette année on a vu plein de cigales, de diverses tailles. Voilà la plus grande que j'ai eu dans les mains.

Strangely, after spending the previous years trying to spot cicadas, this year we saw tons of them, of various sizes: this was one of the biggest we (uh... I) got to touch.

Grotte des Demoiselles

Une nouvelle chose qu'on a découverte (avec la Thomas et sa maman) c'était la Grotte des Demoiselles. Malheureusement ça ne rend pas bien avec mon appareil, mais c'est époustouflant. On se dirait dans un décor du Seigneur des anneaux.

One new thing we visited (with Thomas and his Mum) was the Grotte des Demoiselles. The photo does not do justice to the awe-inspiring 'cathedral'. It's a bit like a scene from the Lord of the Rings.

 

Ca faisait drôle de remettre des chaussures et des pulls pour y entrer - mais il fait 15 degrés là-dedans.

It was strange to put on shoes, trousers and jumpers for the visit, but at 15 degrees (summer and winter), it was advisable.
