Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, c'est le statue de Charlie Chaplin, le plus célebre 'réfrugié' de Vevey.

Un grand bonjour pour Alix - mesdames, messieurs, j'aimerais entendre vos applaudissements s'il vous plaît.

Elle est née hier matin. C'est la fille de LNA (une ex-collègue. Moui, tous mes collègues ont des noms à trois lettres... bizarre eh ?) qui est en plus une fidèle lectrice de ce blog (LA fidèle lectrice de ce blog ?)

On est très heureux pour et avec nos amis, et on leur souhaite tout plein de bonheur.

Et des nuits pas trop courtes !

She was born yesterday morning, to LNA (another ex-colleague. Funny how all of my colleagues have 3 letter names...), who is also a (the?) faithful reader of this blog.

We are very happy for and with our friends, and wish them lots of happiness with Alix.

And bearable nights...

Giggles

Voilà un bon jeu pour bébé à l'ordinateur. Ca coûte de l'argent, mais je trouve que c'est un bon rapport qualité/prix. En tout cas je l'aime bien, la musique est top, et Kalia aime aussi.

Il y a aussi un jeu en ligne pour les grands... mais attention, c'est prenant !.

Here's an excellent computer game for babies. It costs money, but I think it's worth it. In any case, I like it, the music is excellent, and Kalia likes it too (though she doesn't go as crazy as the babies on the demo video).

There's an online game for parents too, but watch out, it's slightly addictive!

Pop & Kalia

Voilà une jolie photo de Kalia avec son Pop. Elle était toute contente parce qu'elle ne s'était jamais encore aventuré si près du lac !

Pour ceux qui se sont intéressé au sort d'Isa et son fils, la dernière nouvelle était qu'il est sorti des soins intensifs, mais pas encore de l'hôpital, donc c'est très bien, par rapport à ce que ça aurait pu être...

Pour ceux qui le connaissent, mon collègue 'JDV' fera son dernier jour chez nous demain. Ca va être dur sans lui - au niveau personnel (on s'habitue à force !), mais aussi au niveau du job - on n'a jamais eu autant de boulot, même quand on était 2 fois plus d'employés !)

En plus, j'aurais plus personne pour me conduire au boulot (il habite à quelques pas de chez nous).

This is a photo of Kalia with her Pop. She was very pleased, as she's never been that close on the rocks before.

For those who may have taken an interest in Isa and her son, the latest news is that he is out of intensive care, but still in hospital. So it's pretty good, compared to what could have happened...

For those who know him, my collegue 'JDV' is leaving us tomorrow. It's going leave a big hole - on a personal level (three years is a long time where I work!), but also as far as work is concerned. We've never had so much work on, even when we were twice as many employees!

And I won't have him to chauffeur me to work any more either (he lives down the road from us).

Isa

Voilà Isa qui joue avec Kalia. C'est une chère amie, qui a fait les cours de relation d'aide avec nous, et sur cette photo on était à l'universite d'été de la relation d'aide ensemble.

Isa est plus que sympa, et son mari et ses enfants sont aussi adorables. Chaque fois qu'on a été invité chez eux, on s'est senti à la maison.

Donc on a été très triste d'apprendre que leur fils a eu un grave accident de moto ce week-end. Si vous faites parti des gens qui croient en l'utilité de la prière, ce serait sympa de prendre un petit moment pour prier pour eux.

Here's our friend Isa with Kalia, it was about a month ago when we were in Nimes.

We got to know Isa on our counselling courses, over three years spent together she has become a dear friend. We have also got to know her husband and their children - and we always feel part of the family when we are invited to their place.

So we were very sad to learn that their son had a serious motorbike accident this weekend. If you are the praying sort, it would be great if you could spare a moment for them at this difficult time.

Pop & Grandma

Kalia s'est vraiment bien entendu avec ses grandparents - au point où quand on est rentré de chez la pédiatre après avoir fait son vaccin, elle a fondu en larmes et s'est jeté dans les bras de mon père pour se faire consoler !

//Hier soir j'ai eu au téléphone une dame que je n'ai pas vu depuis plus de 7 ans. Elle logait à moins d'un kilomètre de chez nous, mais par un concours de circonstances je ne l'ai su qu'à la veille de son départ, et on n'a pas pu se revoir.

Dommage.

She got on really well with her grandparents - and she made us laugh on Friday when we got back from the doctors where she'd had a jab. She burst into tears and ran into her Pop's arms for consolation!

//Yesterday evening, I had a chat on the phone to someone who I hadn't met in more than 7 years. She was staying pretty much round the corner from where we live, but due to a mix-up with email addresses and the like, I didn't know about it till just before she was leaving, and we couldn't find a time to see each other.

Shame.

Fuel economy ... Que de choses

Mes excuses, ça a fait un peu long.

Mes parents viennent de repartir en Angleterre (enfin, à l'heure qu'il est, ils doivent être en train d'arriver chez eux) après 5 jours chez nous - y compris un week-end à Zurich. C'était un peu l'aventure pour tout le monde, mais on a eu beaucoup de plaisir, et Kalia a appris qui sont 'Pop' et 'Grandma'. Elle nous a fait rire parce qu'à plusieurs reprises lors de gros chagrins, c'est dans leurs bras qu'elle est allé se réfugier !

Le voyage à Zurich était encore une occasion de tester la consommation de la nouvelle voiture - et aussi d'expérimenter la joie des bouchons made in suisse... Si jamais vous prenez la tronçon entre Berne et Zurich - prenez-le peut-être à 3h du matin. En tout cas, pour le retour - même un dimanche à midi - on a eu droit à une heure de bouchon.

Sorry, lots of stuff on recently.

My parents have just left for home (well, they're probably arriving now) after five days here - including a weekend in Zurich. It was quite an adventure for all involved, but we had a good time, and Kalia learnt who Pop and Grandma are. She made us laugh several times when she ran into their arms to be consoled when she cried!

The trip to Zurich gave me another chance to test the fuel economy counter on the new car - and also genuine swiss traffic jams. We managed to get stuck in one in both directions. The one on the way back must have lasted about an hour. The worst thing was that at the end of it, there was no indication of why there had been a jam in the first place!

Back to the grindstone tomorrow (bank holiday here today). Ho-hum.

Cristel & Flora

Voilà, finalement c'était assez simple de revenir en arrière, le look du site est restoré, et je ne vais plus jouer avec pendant un bon moment !

Sur la photo, Cristel et Flora, sa fille. C'est l'amie de longue date que je suis allé visiter avec Kalia pendant qu'on était à Nîmes. C'était très chouette de revoir Cristel, de connaître son mari, et aussi sa fille, qui - comme vous pouvez constater par vous-mêmes - est très mignonne !

Well, I managed to get things back to the way they were. It wasn't that complicated in the end, just had to find the right buttons to click. I won't be messing around with that again in a long while, I think.

The photo is of Cristel and her daughter Flora. It's the friend from 'way back when' who I went to see with Kalia when we were in the South of France a few weeks back. It was great to see Cristel again and to meet her husband and Flora, who as you can see is a very cute little girl (and - like Kalia - big for her age, she's only 6 !).
