Deuxième jour à Londres, direction musée des sciences !

Second day in London, off to the Science Museum (in retrospect, we could have skipped Buckingham Palace and the National Gallery, and spent both days at the Science Museum).

D'abord on a été voir la partie sur l'espace, ensuite les avions (ici une tranche de 747).

First we did the 'space bit', then the 'hanging airplanes' bit (this is a slice of a 747).

On a fini par trouver le 'Launchpad' pour les enfants, et on a n'a plus décroché jusqu'à ce qu'on s'est fait mettre dehors (à la fermeture, pas au bout d'une heure et demi!).

We eventually tracked down the kids 'Launchpad', where we didn't budge 'til we got kicked out at closing time!

Saviez-vous que le Science Museum à Londres est gratuit? Mais oui, c'est incroyable.

It's unbelievable that the Science Museum is free. And I was mildly worried that I'd be disappointed compared to my nostalgic memories, but you still get the same feeling: How could I ever possibly see it all?!

Après le Science Museum, on a pris un ancien bus londonien, pour à nouveau aller au Trafalgar Square, où on a fini par manger dans un restaurant italien (qui était tellement bon que j'ai fini par me réconcilier avec le fait qu'on mangeait italien en Angleterre!).

After the Science Museum, we walked up to the RAH, stopped in the Hyde Park a bit ('til we got kicked out there too!), and then managed to get on Routemaster to Trafalgar Square, where the girls had fun posing on a lion. We ended up eating in an Italian restaurant, I wasn't too pleased (I mean, we're in England, right?!), but it ended up being so good (and the waiters so friendly), that I decided it wasn't too bad after all.

Dernier arrêt de notre tour en Angleterre: deux jours à Londres, où on a trouvé un studio de vacances avec AirBnb (même que pour Vienne et Paris - mais oui, on a fait trois grandes villes en un an!). On a été voir le changement de la guarde à Buckingham Palace. Honnêtement, les écureuils dans le parc à côté était plus intéressants !

Last stop on our tour was two days in London. I found a flat on the Old Kent Road via AirBnb (same as for Vienna and Paris - yes that's three capital cities in one year!). We went to see the changing of the guard, in the drizzle. To be honest, the squirrels in Saint James' park were more interesting.

Un jardin vertical c'est joli, mais il faut un peu plus d'outils pour le soigner.

Beautiful 'hanging garden', but you need rather more than a pair of secateurs to tend it.

On a visité le National Gallery, ou le restaurant était très snob, et très cher. Rebecca a profité pour péter toutes les règles de régime !

The restaurant in the National Gallery was populated by very posh, rich people. And us. Rebecca got to eat a very chocolatey cake, for once.

Ce monsieur a mis tellement longtemps à accorder sa cornemuse que tous les badots sont repartis.

This guy spent so long 'tuning' his bagpipes that all of his potential public wandered off.

Celui-ci a vraiment fasciné les filles. J'ai dû faire un dessin après pour expliquer.

The girls spent ages trying to work out what was going on here: an invisible chair? I had to draw them a picture in the end.

 

On a mangé ici, c'était à un jet de pierre de Trafalgar Square, bon marché, cadre très joli, et service sympathique. Un bon Fish & Chips avec une petite bière pour accompagner.

After a bit of searching (and letting the girls have a MacDonalds), we settled on eating here, down an alley a stone's throw from Trafalgar square. A delightful fish & chips in a cosy atmosphere, and charming service. Not that expensive either.

Après deux jours chez les grand parents, nous sommes allées passer une soirée, nuit et matinée avec une amie de Madame, et sa famille. Sur le chemin, les filles se plaignaient "ils ont que des grands garçons, on aura personne pour jouer avec". Mais Alex s'est montré un champion pour amuser les deux filles, et elles ont eu de la peine à repartir!

After two days with Pop, Grandma and Aunty Pippa, we headed off to spend an evening, night and morning with an old friend of Madame's. On the way, the girls complained that, "they've only got big boys, there's going to be no one to play with". But Alex rose to the occasion and pulled out all the stops to keep them happy and entertained!

La visite suivante, chez un vieux pote, les filles se sont bien amusés avec la maison de poupée.

Our next stop was with old friends of mine, where there were girls, and a doll's house.

On est sortie pour aller jouer au 'Poohsticks', et sur le chemin on a croisé (deux fois) des brebis qui rentraient du champs pour se faire marquer, puis retournaient avec le bélier.

On the way to play Poohsticks, we ran into this flock of sheep who were running from the field to farm to be marked, then running back the other way with the ram. It was funny to see the farmer being towed along at breakneck speed by the sheep dog.

Nous avons fait une sortie à Leominster (devinez comment ça se prononce, puis contrôlez ici!), ou on a découvert les joies du 'Latte art'.

We did a little outing to (bizarrely pronounced) Leominster, and while I discovered that in the UK you can't just have a 'coffee' anymore, it has to be Tall/Regular/Latte etc, the girls discovered the joys of 'Latte art'.

Au retour, on s'est à nouveau arrêté dans un tea-room (c'est les vacances, on fait que ça!).

On the way back, we stopped in a quaint little tea room (that's what we do on holiday).

 

La vue du salon du tea-room, très typique pour un village anglais: l'église, le parc, et les fenêtres à guillotine. Devant le parc il y avait un gros panneau 'servez-vous de pommes', et effectivement, il y avait un demi-douzaine de pommiers tout pleins de pommes!
