Crowned ...

Beurk!
Just back from a second visit to the dentists. Two molars gone bad on the inside. The first visit involved lopping off the health top so he could get to the rotten bits and clean them out. This time, he glued in the little pillars, and stuck some temporary crowns on top. The worst bit was staying still while the tooth print set, jaws clamped tight and the back of my mouth slowing filling up with saliva. I felt like I was drowning.

Yuck!

FA2011

We went to an airshow which was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lausanne 'airport'. I didn't really pay attention to what all the planes were called, I was too busy trying to keep track of my two 'lambs' ducking and weaving through the jungle of legs...

We arrived just at the end of a shower, and the weather was very blustery, as you can see from the different skies in the photos. Somehow I managed to get a sunburnt face..

Water, water, not quite everywhere

It doesn't take much to confirm pessimist's dim view of the future, but if you put aside global warming, the financial crisis and colony collapse disorder, a big potential indicator of future instability is water shortage.

Try this for size: what does this list of countries have in common?

Bahrain, Libya, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria.

Well, yes, they're all revolting. But the main point is that they all suffer from acute water shortages.

Here's a 'nice' quote:
"Arguably, the most fundamental of the causes of the Arab spring's unrest is the crumbling of a social contract that linked cheap water with subservience to dictators".

Two articles on this topic which are worth a read:

The Middle East is running dry - and into the perfect storm?
What does the Arab world do when its water runs out?

Obviously, living within a stone's throw of 89km3 of water, I probably shouldn't be worrying too much. But hey...

Whats? ... Echasses?

We used to have these when I was a kid. Can't remember what they were called. I do remember that they were made out of layers of cardboard though, not plastic...

Brunch

Another late post. For the 1st of August (Swiss national holiday), we went to a 'brunch at a farm', which is a tradition-in-the-making. We've been to three others in previous years, and were really looking forward to a good nosh-up and amazing spread.

We were incredibly disappointed to be served a plate of boiled vegetables and boiled meat, plus slice of bread. That is NOT what I call a brunch.

The main highlight was a ride in a horse and cart, and Kalia 'helping' the clown.
